The Charon 8P is a very simple 3G-SDI audio embedder/de-embedder.
- Incoming 3G-SDI has the audio channels 1-8 de-embedded. These are embedded in the Dante output channels 1-8.
- Incoming Dante channels 1-8 are embedded in the 3G-SDI output
There are no controls on the Charon and the audio signals are simply routed bi-directionally simultaneously: 1 input to 1 output as above. This simple operation is intended for situations where basic 3G-SDI audio embed/de-embed functionality is required, without the additional features of other devices that inevitably cost more.
Network connections are fully redundant with primary and secondary connections via CAT5 copper Ethernet or fiber via primary and secondary SFP cages.
SDI input and output is via 2 unbalanced 75 Ohm BNC connectors.
Currently the Charon is only suitable for 3G-SDI (SMPTE 424M), 6G or 12G are not supported.
The Charon 8P is available as a portable device with PoE or 12VDC power supply.
